The best way to start a blog

Got the hosting set up yesterday, so spent some time getting Wordpress the way we wanted it to look. All set to start blogging when I realised there was one thing I hadn’t planned. My First Post! What would it be?

A short discussion brought it down to three options -

  • Pseudo humor from Shakespeare (To blog or not..) to Neil Armstrong (One small post for….)
  • A patently fake self deprecation - YAWN (Yet Another Wannabe Nobody)
  • The standard introduction (Hi! I’m ….)
  • - when inspiration struck. Turn to the first resort of all netizens - Google.

The first search “start a blog” brought almost a million results. Uh huh, too many. Let’s try “Best way to start a blog”. Better now - it’s down to 296.

Another half an hour reading through some of these. Worth spending time too, but not when you’ve a blog to start. More later.

Next bright idea. Hey! Why spend time on Google? I’m looking for blogs. Maybe the blog search sites are better…. I think.

    Technorati : 67 links
    Del.icio.us : 124 links
    Google BlogSearch : 21 links.

The problem with all of them are the dead sites - still in the search cache, but no longer around on the web. Next, are the duplicate entries, a whole host of them. But sift through the chaff, and there’s the odd nugget of gold.

Just pretend I’ve been here all along Now that avoids the first post problem altogether!

Finally, some useful advice, from Mergedigital.com

The best way to start a blog is to pick a topic - any topic - and just write.

So that’s just what I did.
