Not super, just nova
A little more on why I’m cluttering the blogosphere. If you’ve read Flexo’s post on the growth of personal finance blogs, you’ll see that he’s commented on the explosive growth in the numbers of new blogs and bloggers. And asked why we’ve started blogging on this topic.
So here goes. I’d commented earlier about wanting to join the community of PF bloggers; part of it is related to sharing ideas, learning more, and doing more. I’ve been interested in making more and keeping more from a very young age; it’s something that comes when you grow up under somewhat straitened circumstances. I have come quite some way along, but haven’t quite shaken off the coils of needing a monthly cash infusion to keep things ticking.
A second part relates to how I get my daily bread. A large part of my career has been in startup businesses; an intrapreneur, rather than an entrepreneur, for the most part. I did venture out at one point; the initial 8 months were on track, September 11 came along, and when the dust settled I was back on the old track. One of the key learnings that I took back was that no matter how much you plan and execute, factors far beyond can have so severe an impact that you’re lucky to survive it.
Only the fact that we’d saved diligently kept us afloat through that period. Though at a cost. By the time things settled down, we’d used over three fourths of our savings just to keep going through two years. If anything, that intensified the focus on personal financial wellbeing.
The last two years have paid off, in a sense. We’re back with a networth that’s higher than before. From being down to $11,000 with a negative cashflow every month a few years ago, we’ve come a long way up - this month, our networth is in 6 figures for the first time. Christmas came early this year.
But I haven’t lost that desire to create, and have a business of my own. And for a number of reasons, the internet seems to be the right place to do it. More on this in my next post.
While I’ve helped set up websites before, those have been of a different nature. More of business web sites / corporate websites, rather than a web business. With web development and updation being outsourced.
So this blog is a start. On setting up a website, keeping it updated, and learning the ropes. Along with building bridges to others who share similar ideas.
The first thing you learn in starting any business, is that you can’t do it alone. So if you’ve been thinking along these lines, do get in touch. Because by helping each other, we can do it faster and better than any of us trying it alone.

Found your blog recently. My only complaint is the use of a tan background with a font color that is only tad bolder than the background. I’m not joking when I say this, but it causes my eyes to strain and I can’t look at it that long. Thanks for the posts.
