…. and in passing

Sometimes, the “when” you say something makes a lot of difference. And the how.

There’s this news report on The Guardian from London about the Italian Prime Minister, Berlusconi. Campaigning for election, he was asked what his government could do to help workers with low incomes. Italy’s richest citizen blithely replied: “The answer of Berlusconi the businessman is: ‘Try to earn more by getting on with things.”

According to the news report, he’s a self made man, who started from scratch. As a businessman, there’s a lot of truth in that statement; and there are things anyone can do to try to earn more. For instance, Jeff’s post on turning a hobby into something that makes money.

The only problem is, he wasn’t asked for his opinion as a businessman; and as the leader of a country, especially one who’s fighting for election right now, was it wise to say so?
