Jeffrey’s point of view …
One of the reasons I like Jeff’s blog is that he has a different angle to most things - example being Let Your Children Teach You To Save Money!. You’ve got to love this “It was the only time I’ve ever heard a kid reminding their parents to turn off the lights and I guess that in itself says it all. ” Thanks, Jeff, for the comment - this one was so good I had to give it some more visibility through a post!
Still doesn’t solve my quandary, though. Our problem is not that he wants more money - he isn’t interested in the “earn it” route at all! Not that he hasn’t got a wish list as long as my arm (and which would cost an arm and a leg, too) - IPod, Playstation, Computer games, camp gear, a new cellphone - the works. But “Dad, can you get me ….?” Not “Dad, I want to get this, so how do I earn…?”
We tried a few times, when the requests came in. Any of these, he could get if he worked at it for a few months. Agreed, each one would take that time - but the alternative is that he doesn’t have it anyway.
It’s worth asking for : tantrums, tears and the “you don’t love me at all” - but not worth working for! So how do we change that attitude?
