Work more, work longer …. live more?

FMF has a post on the new retirement strategy - Never retire! The benefits include extending the time that your savings will last.

A different effect that I’ve noticed among retirees is the general health and activity level. Those who’ve stopped all activity have generally been prone to many more health and fitness issues, while those who keep themselves active tend to do better. I’ve seen some spry octogenerians still full of beans, while others look aged and ailing by the time they’re 70+ - and I’d bet there’s a good correlation between the two.

Financially speaking, working longer will reduce the number of years of negative cash flow. When I did the retirement calculator at my website, the most glaring thing that I’ve found is that for every extra work year that a person put in, not only he or she accumulates savings for 1 additional year, but he or she also burns cash for 1 less year.

Thanks for the mention!

You’re 100% correct. Those that don’t “use it” certainly do “lose it.”
