The other guy’s greedy!
The price of gas is up, but it’s unthinkable to practice frugal driving! Nope. It’s upto the government and the oil companies. But will they do anything?
So, while us humble day-to-day people struggle to fill our cars with fuel those who could do something about it won’t. Why? Because they’re greedy.
It doesn’t matter that over three quarters of the world’s population doesn’t even have a car. Or that the impact of higher gas prices, like everything else, is much more on the poor.
The US (and Australia) account for less than 5% of the world’s population. And there are several parts of the world where gas prices are far, far higher. Check out the Europe Fuel Price Map or the Relocation Journal (old history, but as valid today).
So it’s unthinkable to car pool.
In some countries where distances are greater in the cities and public transport functions well, people are switching to public transport more often, like in Argentina (36%), Brazil (32%), China (47%), Hong Kong (48%), South Korea (53%), Taiwan (43%), Thailand (43%) and Turkey (40%). Only 8 percent of US respondents noted this approach.
(Quoted from ACNielsen)
The last time I checked, the passenger seat in most cars is as comfortable as the driver’s seat. And a lot more comfortable than public transport.
I agree - there’s room for governments and oil companies to do more. But if you aren’t doing all you can, why should they?
